The Longing In Me

Week Five - Longing for God's Grace
Reminder: Watch this video the week of Jul 14 - Jul 20

God has wired each of us to long for fellowship with Him. As believers, when we sin, our relationship with Him does not end. You don't cease to know another person whom you may have wronged in relationship; and the same is true with the Lord. The relationship is not terminated, but the fellowship is affected. The honest truth is, we don't want to seek communion with the Lord when we know we have broken His heart and His law. David's example this week will encourage us to confess our sin, repent and be restored in the sweet fellowship with our God. It is a powerful message of mercy, and God's grace...grace that we all long for!

Scripture of the Week

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart,
O God, You will not despise.

~ Psalm 51:17 (NAS)-A Psalm of David

Discussion / Journaling Question

We sincerely believe this six-week online study will encourage you as you learn to direct your God-endowed longings to the one who longs for you. Let us encourage you, after watching each weeks' video teaching segment (and reading the corollary readings in the book and study guide if you've purchased those); to review the discussion/journaling questions we provide below. If you're doing this study "solo", let these prompt you in your prayer time, as you journal, or simply to ponder during your study time. If you are in a group setting for this study (face-to-face with others, or via social media or online tools); you may wish to discuss these with others in your "group".

Questions to ponder, journal, or discuss with others enjoying this study with you:

  1. We suggest that you read Psalm 51 as a spiritual exercise this week; the psalm David wrote in repentance for his great sin with Bathsheba. As you read; underline or highlight verses that speak most directly to you. You may want to read this Psalm in various translations as well, to gain insight into the full meaning and power of its inspired words.
  2. Have you ever tried to "hide" or "cover up" a sin in your life as David did? How did you feel during the time you were doing so? Read Psalm 32, another psalm of David, written after he had "come clean" with the Lord about his sin. Can you identify with what he describes there, especially in verses 3-4?
  3. Are there sins that you need to confess today? Perhaps even ones from your past, ones that you have tried to keep hidden? Today is the day of God's grace to you. Confess those things, repent of them, and know again the joy of your salvation!
